As my OHC family and I looked out on the crowd of people filing into the Jumpstart health clinic in Amarillo, Texas, our hearts were moved with the joy of service. What a wonderful feeling to know that you have truly helped God’s children and have planted seeds of hope and truth in dozens of lives. If Jesus had been physically here on Earth at that very moment, I am sure that he would have been working alongside each one of us there in that place.
Whether it was enthusiastically singing songs of encouragement, taking care of lively children, or compassionately guiding patients in the right direction, hearts were encouraged and touched during the whole process. As the willing volunteers took each person’s vitals, gave soothing massages, or explained the practical eight laws of health, some patients wondered why a group of people would do all this for no apparent reason. The reason was actually quite simple. As the hands and feet of Jesus, we must compassionately meet people’s physical and spiritual needs just as Jesus did when He was on earth. When we saw the smiles on the patient’s faces and the many lives being positively affected, our exhaustion quickly faded away. There is something beautiful and invigorating about service.
