Church Planting

Project Description

Ouachita Hills College has been working to plant a Seventh-day Adventist Church in the city of Arkadelphia, Arkansas since the spring of 2004. Arkadelphia is a multi-racial city of just about 11,000 persons. Nearly 40% of these are students at the two local universities, Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.

Students from the college have been holding regular weekly Bible studies since 2004 in public places and rented halls. Their involvement includes taking door-to-door surveys, conducting health-seminars, holding children’s services, canvassing, and public speaking.

Students speaking about their experience at Ouachita Hills College often speak of their work in the church plant as a highlight of their educational experience. This year has witnessed significant jumps forward in the work in Arkadelphia.

In the fall of 2006 we began holding monthly church services in additional to our weekly Sabbath-afternoon Bible studies. We made a long-range plan that included the spring evangelistic series.

News

The evangelistic series, hosted by Sure-Word Ministries and John Rosengren, began in early April and the second baptism for the church plant is scheduled for March 5.

Meetings, through the first week of March, are being conducted six times a week: Sabbath morning, and each evening except Sunday and Wednesday. Twenty not-yet Adventists have been attending the meetings more-or-less regularly since the presentation on the Sabbath on April 16.
